Why am I not getting any engagement on my posts?
An open space for sharing your suggestions or challenges in writing
Two months ago, I stared at a blank document for hours, my newsletter deadline looming over my head.
Another week would pass without a published piece. The cursor blinked mockingly, a stark reminder of my struggle with writing consistency.
When I started this newsletter, I planned a candid exploration of the writing process—its triumphs, trials, and transformative moments. Yet, here I am, wrestling with the very challenges I set out to understand.
So in this edition of “The Writing Experience”, I want to take a different route.
Instead of giving writing advice, I’m embracing my vulnerability and inviting suggestions/tips from fellow writers.
First things first, a bit of an honest confession:
I haven’t been consistent here or even with writing for that matter.
I didn’t apply all the tried-and-tested methods out there.
I did seek advice before but haven’t applied it truly yet.
I try but coming up with original ideas to share regularly is difficult.
In my defense, I work a day job along with other hobbies to pursue, so I don’t get enough time to put into my writing.
All that said, here I am—writing this post. I’m hoping this could be a repository for me or anyone out there who’s struggling to keep writing.
I want to learn from those who write regularly on substack, what is their methodology.
Or perhaps what is their strategy to get more engagements on their posts?
When I started this newsletter, I mentioned that it’s all about the experience of writing—the joys, the challenges, the setbacks, and the strategies.
Since then, I’ve only published my learnings in terms of tips and suggestions.
Now, I’m taking a passive stance and want better advice on how to bring more traction to my posts.
So this post is about my 2 current biggest writing challenges:
1. Developing a Consistent Writing Rhythm
How to turn that sudden spark of creativity into a consistent, dependable habit? I'm looking for practices that have been effective for writers who balance multiple responsibilities. What are some daily or weekly practices that have helped you show up for your writing when motivation has flagged?
2. Enhancing Meaningful Engagement
Beyond consistency, I am curious about building a genuine connection with readers. How do writers on platforms like Substack transform their newsletters from monologues into conversations? What techniques have you used to not just attract readers, but to truly engage them?
I know that the latter goal is partially dependent on the former but there must be more to it, right?
I am not seeking general guidance. I need authentic, lived experiences. How did you work through comparable struggles? What particular techniques have helped you make writing a habitual activity instead of a casual pastime?
So, if you’re reading this, and if you’ve seen yourself grow on Substack, I’d love to know about your journey or what steps you took to see improvement.
Through this post, I request you to share your insights into online writing.
That’s all for this issue. If you’ve read it till here, I truly appreciate it.
I’m looking forward to your insights and feedback to improve this newsletter.
So if you have anything to add or share, let me know in the comments.
I’ll see you in the next issue of “The Writing Experience”. Thank You!
The thing I tried didn't work at all so I gave up :-) Nobody commented or liked my posts on my substack.
Your content is cool, it should eventually work.
